Palau's micro-gold program, launched in the mid-2000s, targeted the collector gift market rather than any serious numismatic audience — these fractional pieces were produced in large quantities relative to their tiny physical footprint and were sold primarily through European teleshop and mail-order channels. The Rhino Beetle issue is one of several fauna-themed entries in that run.
