Obverse description The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Sierra Leone at centre, featuring two lions passant as supporters flanking a shield adorned with a torch and wavy lines, with two palm trees rising above the shield. A decorative ribbon below the shield bears the national motto in the field. The legend REPUBLIC OF SIERRA LEONE arcs along the upper periphery, with UNITY FREEDOM JUSTICE inscribed on the scroll beneath the arms. The date 2002 appears in the lower exergue, and the mintmark PM is present. The design is executed in high relief against a finely beaded border.
