Issued as part of Singapore's ongoing "Gardens & Parks" series, this piece commemorates two of the island's coastal recreational sites before significant reclamation and development altered their character. Pungool Point — more commonly rendered as Punggol — had been a fishing village before wartime devastation and postwar neglect left it largely abandoned until the government's late-1990s plans to redevelop the northeastern coastline gained momentum.
The Singapore Mint produced both silver and base-metal versions of this issue, with the .999 fine silver striking intended for the collector market.
