Additional information

Sierra Leone has issued a long-running series of prehistoric creature dollars aimed squarely at the thematic collector market, with pieces struck by various European mints on contract. The Pterodactylus — technically a small Late Jurassic pterosaur from the Solnhofen limestone deposits of Bavaria, not the oversized beast of popular imagination — lends its name here somewhat loosely.

KM#445 saw limited secondary market absorption outside specialist thematic sets.
