Issued the same year Diana died, this coin rides the wave of commemorative pieces rushed to market following the August 1997 Paris crash — a production category so flooded that Sierra Leone, Cook Islands, and a dozen other small-revenue issuers each put out multiple Diana-themed pieces within months. Sierra Leone had no meaningful connection to her AIDS work; the nominal tie to the campaign was a common framing device used across the commemorative trade to lend the pieces thematic weight.
