| 背面描述 | A full-color photographic-style bust portrait of Pope Pius XI facing slightly right occupies the central field, depicted wearing his white papal cassock and a red mozzetta trimmed with white fur. To the left of the portrait, the papal coat of arms of Pius XI is rendered in color, featuring crossed keys and tiara above a shield charged with an eagle and three roundels. The circular legend 80 YEARS OF VATICAN CITY STATE arcs along the upper rim, with the dates 1929 and 2009 appearing on the left and right sides respectively. The inscription PIUS PP. XI 1922-1939 is engraved in the lower legend, all lettering separated by raised dot punctuation marks. |

Palau has issued devotional coinage under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, exploiting its status as a sovereign mint authority to produce collector pieces for the Catholic market. This Pius XI dollar appeared during the pontificate of Benedict XVI, roughly 73 years after Pius XI's death — long past any commemorative logic tied to an anniversary.
Pius XI negotiated the 1929 Lateran Treaty with Mussolini, which created Vatican City as an independent state and resolved the so-called Roman Question that had festered since 1870.
