| 正面描述 | Central field features the coat of arms of the Republic of Palau, depicted as a heraldic shield showing a mariner figure with a trident accompanied by a reclining female figure, set against a crescent moon, with a waving flag surmounting the shield. The legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU arcs along the upper rim, flanked by six five-pointed stars on each side. The inscription RAINBOWS END appears within the lower portion of the shield, and the denomination 1 $ is positioned in the lower field beneath the arms. |

Palau has issued devotional coinage under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, exploiting its status as a sovereign mint authority to produce collector pieces for the Catholic market. This Pius XI dollar appeared during the pontificate of Benedict XVI, roughly 73 years after Pius XI's death — long past any commemorative logic tied to an anniversary.
Pius XI negotiated the 1929 Lateran Treaty with Mussolini, which created Vatican City as an independent state and resolved the so-called Roman Question that had festered since 1870.
