Averslegende REPUBLIC OF PALAU RAINBOW'S END 1$
Reversbeschreibung A high-relief bust of the young Karol Wojtyla, the future Pope John Paul II, is depicted in left-facing three-quarter view, rendered in a youthful portrait evoking his early years in Wadowice. Behind the bust, a detailed engraving of a historic building in Wadowice forms the background. At the upper portion of the field, the papal coat of arms of John Paul II — featuring the papal tiara and crossed keys — is centrally placed, flanked by the years 2005 and 2010. The legend 5TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS DEATH arcs along the upper rim, while the inscription YOUTH IN WADOWICE appears in the central field and POPE JOHN PAUL II is engraved prominently along the lower arc in large Latin characters.

Zusätzliche Informationen

Palau has issued commemorative dollars under its licensing agreements with the Pobjoy Mint and others since the 1990s, producing religious and ecological themes almost industrially. This John Paul II piece appeared roughly five years after his death in April 2005, during the period when his beatification cause was already advancing under Benedict XVI — he was formally beatified in May 2011, just one year after this coin's release.

Silver-plated copper issues of this type were struck in the tens of thousands and distributed primarily through the collector and gift trade rather than any circulation channel.
