| Obverse description | Bust of Sacagawea facing right, her hair swept back and adorned with a round earring, carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste swaddled against her back in a traditional cradleboard wrap. The design, sculpted by Glenna Goodacre and engraved by Phebe Hemphill, renders the figures in high relief with naturalistic detail. The legend LIBERTY arcs across the upper field, while the motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears in two lines to the left of the central effigy. The designer's initials appear incused at the lower left of the design. |
