The 2010 Native American Dollar commemorates the influence of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy's Great Law of Peace on the framers of the U.S. Constitution — a claim that gained serious academic traction in the 1980s and prompted a 1988 Senate concurrent resolution formally acknowledging the connection. How direct that influence actually was remains contested among historians, but the resolution gave political legitimacy to the attribution.
This was the third issue in the Native American Dollar series, authorized under the Native American $1 Coin Act of 2007. The reverse changes annually; the obverse retains Glenna Goodacre's Sacagawea portrait from 2000 unchanged.
