Obverse description The obverse bears the portrait of Sacagawea in right-facing profile, sculpted by Glenna Goodacre, depicting the Shoshone guide with her infant son Jean Baptiste swaddled in a cradleboard on her back. Her hair is parted at the center and drawn back, with a circular ear ornament visible at the left. The legend LIBERTY arcs along the upper rim, while the motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears in two lines to the left of the effigy in the field. The designer's initials GG are incused at the base of the portrait.
