| Obverse description | Draped bust of Sacagawea, the Shoshone guide and interpreter, facing right, her infant son Jean Baptiste carried on her back in a traditional cradleboard, rendered in high relief with fine sculptural detail. The legend LIBERTY arcs along the upper rim, while the motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears in two lines to the left of the effigy in the field. The design, engraved by Phebe Hemphill, is modeled after Glenna Goodacre's original 2000 Sacagawea dollar portrait, distinguished by its naturalistic treatment of the figures and warm manganese-brass golden tone. |
