Obverse description The Jamaican coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield charged with pineapples and a crocodile, supported by two Taino figures standing on a scroll bearing the national motto. Above the shield, a crocodile crest is shown atop a royal helm. The legend JAMAICA arcs along the upper periphery within a beaded border, while the denomination ONE DOLLAR and the date appear along the lower periphery, flanking the base of the shield.

Reverse description A right-facing bust portrait of Sir Alexander Bustamante, Jamaica's first Prime Minister, is rendered in high relief at the center of the field. The portrait is unadorned and naturalistically modeled, capturing the statesman in a suit and tie. The legend BUSTAMANTE arcs along the upper periphery, while the inscription FIRST PRIME MINISTER 1962-67 curves along the lower portion of the field, all within a beaded border.
