Obverse description The obverse displays the national coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia in the central field, depicting a three-masted sailing ship at sea, a palm tree, and a rising sun on the shoreline, all enclosed within a heraldic shield supported by a scroll bearing the motto legend. A flying dove appears above the shield. A ribbon scroll arching across the upper portion of the shield bears the national motto legend. The date 1996 is divided on either side of the coat of arms, with the peripheral legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcing along the upper rim and the denomination 1 DOLLAR inscribed along the lower rim.
