| Obverse description | Left-facing bust of Leif Ericson rendered in an archaic Icelandic artistic style, depicted wearing a riveted conical Viking helmet with long flowing hair and beard visible beneath. The legend LEIF ERICSON curves along the upper periphery within a decorative Norse interlace border encircling the entire field. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears in three lines to the left of the effigy, with LIBERTY inscribed to the lower right, and the date 2000 in large numerals along the base.
