| Aanvullende informatie |
Mercury-Atlas 8 launched on October 3, 1962, carrying Walter Schirra on a six-orbit mission that NASA considered its first operationally successful Mercury flight — tight, efficient, and almost entirely on-plan in a program not known for those qualities. Schirra splashed down just 9 kilometers from the recovery ship, the most accurate re-entry of the entire Mercury program.
Fiji's commemorative output from this period leaned heavily on American space anniversaries, with silver-plated copper-nickel issues aimed squarely at the collector market rather than circulation.
