Additional information

Palau's 2009 Kookaburra dollar belongs to a category of fractional gold issues that proliferated in the late 2000s — tiny, high-fineness pieces marketed primarily to collectors rather than investors. The five-nines purity (.99999) is the same standard Perth Mint adopted for its flagship bullion products, unusual for a piece this small and issued under a Pacific island authority with no domestic gold industry whatsoever.
