This piece belongs to a bullion reissue program rather than any original Palauan monetary initiative — Palau has no domestic gold mining tradition and licensed the Kangaroo Nugget design from the Perth Mint, which has struck five-nines purity gold under its own Australian series since 1986. The .99999 fineness is genuinely exceptional; most investment gold runs at .9999, and achieving the additional purification step requires a separate electrolytic refining pass.
