Tyler's inclusion in the Presidential Dollar series is historically awkward — he was expelled from the Whig Party less than a year into his presidency, served the remainder of his term without a party affiliation, and was later elected to the Confederate Congress, making him the only U.S. president to die an official enemy of the federal government. Congress initially declined to hold a funeral in his honor.
