Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse features a sinuous dragon depicted in dynamic relief, its body coiling and twisting in a continuous spiral across the field, evoking the traditional iconography of Chinese lunar mythology. At the centre of the design, a Chinese character for dragon (龙) is prominently displayed, integrating Eastern calligraphic art with the Western minting tradition. The designer's initials BS appear in the field. The surrounding legend reads YEAR OF THE DRAGON, marking the 2024 Lunar New Year celebration.

Aanvullende informatie

The 2024 lunar dollar continues the Royal Australian Mint's long-running series tied to the Chinese zodiac — a program that has driven substantial collector demand since its early iterations. Dragon years consistently outsell other animals in the cycle, a pattern the Mint has acknowledged openly, and mintages for these releases are typically managed accordingly. Jody Clark's sixth portrait of Elizabeth II, adopted by Australia in 2019, appears here posthumously; the Queen died in September 2022, making this among the later commemorative issues to carry her effigy.
