Perth Mint's annual silver Koala series has run since 1987, with the reverse design changed each year — a deliberate strategy to encourage collector repurchase that has made the series one of Australia's longest-running bullion programs. The "6th Portrait" designation refers to the Jody Clark effigy of Elizabeth II, introduced across Australian coinage in 2019, which itself became historically fixed when the Queen died in September 2022, making this 2023 issue one of the first struck posthumously under that portrait.
