Obverse description Colourised central field depicting the Hong Kong harbour skyline with prominent skyscrapers and the Chinese national flag flying atop one of the buildings, beneath a yellow sun against a blue sky. Two traditional Chinese junk vessels with red sails are shown in the foreground on the harbour waters. The Chinese characters 香港 (Hong Kong) appear in the left portion of the coloured scene. The legend HONG KONG RETURNS arcs across the upper field and TO CHINA across the lower field, both in raised Latin lettering. The inner border is formed by a ring of beads, and the outer border features a continuous Greek key (meander) decorative pattern.
