Obverse description Coloured central field depicting the iconic Victoria Harbour skyline of Hong Kong at sunset, rendered in vivid red and orange hues, with traditional Chinese junk sailing vessels prominently featured in the foreground. Superimposed over the cityscape are the Chinese characters 香港 (Hong Kong) to the left and a small Union Jack flag to the right. The legend HONG KONG RETURNS TO CHINA arcs around the coloured central disc in the upper and lower portions of the field. The border of the coin features an elaborate Greek key (meander) decorative pattern interspersed with beading, evoking both classical and Chinese artistic motifs.
