Obverse description The obverse features the coat of arms of Fiji centrally positioned in the field, depicting a quartered shield supported by two figures in traditional Fijian dress, with a sailing vessel at the crest. The shield bears the Cross of St. George with a British lion in the first quarter and sugarcane, coconut palm, dove of peace, and bunch of bananas in the remaining quarters. A scroll beneath the arms bears the national motto in the Fijian language. The country name legend FIJI and the date 2017 arc across the upper field, while the denomination 1 DOLLAR appears in the lower field. The rim is decorated with a continuous border of repeating triangular ornamental devices.
