Reverse description The reverse presents a symbolic vignette of silhouetted figures crossing a bridge formed by a pair of clasped hands, representing solidarity and the journey to freedom along the Underground Railroad. In the upper field, the Big Dipper constellation is depicted in the night sky, its orientation pointing toward the North Star, which is ingeniously incorporated as the letter O in the word OF within the surrounding legend. The design evokes the historical use of celestial navigation by freedom seekers. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs above, with E PLURIBUS UNUM and the denomination ONE DOLLAR inscribed in the field. The reverse was engraved by Craig Campbell.
