Palau has issued commemorative dollars under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, producing themed series for the international collector market rather than domestic circulation. The Seven Wonders series, of which this is a part, was distributed primarily through European and American telemarketing and coin dealer networks — not through Palauan banks.
Silver-plated copper was a deliberate cost reduction that kept retail price points accessible while maintaining the visual presentation of a silver coin. KM#224 is one of seven pieces in the set, each struck to the same specification.
