The Bounty connection to the Pacific is genuine enough — the mutiny occurred in 1789 not far from Fijian waters, and Fletcher Christian's group eventually settled Pitcairn Island, whose handful of descendants still use New Zealand currency today. Fiji itself has leaned on the Bounty's regional mythology for numismatic purposes across several issues. This particular piece belongs to a wave of fractional gold-plated coins produced for the collector market in the early 2010s, where the gold-plated-over-585 construction kept price points accessible without abandoning the gold category entirely.
