British Guiana's P#12 dollar was issued under emergency wartime fiscal conditions — London printing combined with local authorization created a series where date-signed examples cluster heavily around 1942, the most pressured year for Allied supply logistics in the Caribbean theater. Waterlow & Sons had been the colony's printer of record since earlier in the century, and the relationship was well-established by the time this series ran.
The watermark security was modest by contemporary standards, though for a colonial territory with limited counterfeiting infrastructure it was considered sufficient. Surviving examples with clean signatures and dates prior to 1940 are notably less common than the 1941–42 issues.
