| 表面の説明 | The national coat of arms of Sierra Leone occupies the central field, depicting two lions rampant as supporters flanking a shield adorned with a torch between two wavy lines, with palm trees in the background. A scroll below the shield bears the national motto in the legend. The circular legend 'REPUBLIC OF SIERRA LEONE' arcs across the upper periphery, while 'UNITY FREEDOM JUSTICE' appears on the motto ribbon at the base of the arms. The date '2002' is inscribed in the lower field. The design is rendered in fine relief against a smooth field, with a beaded border encircling the entire composition. |

Issued to mark the fiftieth anniversary of Elizabeth II's accession, this coin was produced by Pobjoy Mint on behalf of Sierra Leone — one of dozens of Commonwealth and associated territories that contracted the Surrey-based private mint for jubilee issues that year. Sierra Leone's own currency infrastructure was in no position to produce commemoratives domestically; the country was barely a year removed from the end of a brutal eleven-year civil war that had effectively collapsed state institutions. The coin circulated in name only.
