| Obverse description | The obverse bears the national arms of Palau set within the skull-shaped flan, depicting Neptune holding a trident and seated beside a mermaid beneath a crescent and star, enclosed within an ornate shield with the legend RAINBOW'S END below. The inscription REPUBLIC OF PALAU arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by a ring of six-pointed stars on each side. A traditional Palauan outrigger canoe appears above the shield. The denomination 1$ is inscribed in the lower field beneath the arms. The entire design is executed in silk finish on the skull-shaped gold flan. |

This "Catrina" issue draws on the Mexican Día de los Muertos figure popularized through 20th-century printmaking, with no particular connection to Palauan culture or history.
