| Obverse description | Uncrowned effigy of King George VI facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and a bare neck truncation, after the portrait by Thomas Humphrey Paget, whose initials 'HP' appear below the neck truncation. The circumferential legend reads GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX, notably omitting the titles IND:IMP: (Emperor of India) that appeared on earlier issues. The legend is set in evenly spaced serif capitals between the inner field and the milled border. |
