Obverse description Laureate and cuirassed effigy of King Carlos IV facing right, with the date 1790 appearing below the bust and the royal legend disposed around the periphery. Centrally applied is the Type I oval countermark of the Bank of England, bearing the right-facing portrait of King George III, punched into the obverse field as authorisation for British colonial circulation. The host coin is a Spanish Colonial 8 Reales struck at the Mexico City Mint. The countermark is clearly struck at centre, overpunching the original obverse design.
