Part of a sprawling series issued by Liberia in the lead-up to the 2006 FIFA World Cup hosted by Germany, this piece was struck years before the tournament as part of a promotional licensing arrangement. Liberia had no footballing connection to the event whatsoever — the series exists purely as a numismatic product targeting collectors, not a currency issue with any domestic monetary function.
The Frankfurt stadium in question, the Waldstadion, was renamed Commerzbank-Arena under a corporate sponsorship deal finalized around this same period.
