Beschrijving voorzijde Central field depicts a bare-breasted mermaid with long flowing hair adorned with a floral wreath, shown from the waist upward, facing slightly left and holding a shell or floral spray in her raised right hand. To the left, a tall-masted square-rigged sailing ship is rendered in fine detail against an open sea horizon with seabirds in flight. The denomination '1$' appears in the lower field. The surrounding legend 'REPUBLIC OF PALAU' arcs along the upper border, with the date '1994' descending along the right inner border, all within a beaded inner circle and reeded edge.

Aanvullende informatie

Palau's 1994 dollar series arrived just three years after the nation gained its Compact of Free Association with the United States, and the Fish and Coral issue was among the first coins struck under the new republic's authority. The series was produced for the collector market from the outset — Palau has never operated its own mint, contracting production abroad while using the US dollar as its functional currency.
