Reverse description The reverse features a full-color photographic-style rendering of Michael Schumacher's Ferrari F1-2000 Formula One racing car, depicted head-on approaching the viewer on the Suzuka Circuit track, with a packed grandstand of spectators visible in the background displaying German and Italian national flags. The legend GREATEST VICTORIES OF FERRARI arcs along the upper left border, while F1-2000 is inscribed at the top. Below the central image, the inscriptions MICHAEL SCHUMACHER, GP JAPAN, and 08 OCT 2000 identify the commemorated event, with the year 2011 at the lower point of the rhombus.

Additional information

Palau has issued commemorative dollars under licensing agreements with the Formula One organization and individual drivers' estates since the mid-2000s, producing silver-plated copper pieces aimed squarely at the collector and gift market rather than circulation. This piece honors Schumacher at a point when his comeback with Mercedes — begun in 2010 — was already proving underwhelming against a dominant Red Bull era. He retired permanently in 2012, one year after this coin was struck.
