Liberia ran an extended series of these oversized silver-plated commemoratives in the early 2000s, issuing dollar-denominated pieces tied to the euro conversion across multiple European nations. The Netherlands joined the eurozone on January 1, 2002, retiring the guilder after roughly 350 years of continuous use — one of the longer-lived currency traditions dissolved by monetary union.
Liberia had no meaningful connection to any of these countries. The series was produced for the collector market, not circulation, and the coins hold no legal tender utility in practice.
