Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the fourth portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The legend '1 DOLLAR 2015' arcs along the upper periphery, with 'NIUE ISLAND' continuing to the right. The fineness designation 'Ag 999' appears in the lower left field, and the engraver's initials 'IRB' are incuse below the truncation alongside the mint mark. The name 'ELIZABETH II' is inscribed along the lower border. The coin is struck in a scalloped cabbage-leaf shape with a deeply mirrored proof field.

Reverse description A richly detailed polychrome scene celebrating the Chinese Lunar Year of the Goat, set within a scalloped cabbage-leaf-shaped flan whose lobed border frames the composition. A large adult goat with gilded horns is depicted centrally in high relief, rearing upright beside a wicker basket overflowing with colorfully enameled vegetables including cabbage, carrots, and radishes. Three playful kid goats with gilded hooves frolic around the central figure amid scattered floral motifs in the lower field. A full moon rises in the upper left background, and stylized cabbage leaves rendered in relief form the outer border of the design. The reverse carries no inscriptions, allowing the elaborate sculptural and enameled imagery to dominate the field.

Additional information

Niue's relationship with commemorative coinage is essentially a licensing arrangement — the island nation collects royalties from mints producing collectibles under its authority, with the New Zealand dollar serving actual daily commerce. The Lunar series issues of this type were produced for the collector market ahead of the Lunar New Year, with 2015 marking the Year of the Goat (also rendered as Sheep or Ram depending on the issuing authority's translation preference — a genuine ambiguity in the Chinese zodiac term 羊).
