Perth Mint's annual lunar series has run continuously since 1996, with each twelve-year cycle producing two distinct product lines — the longer-running Series I and the redesigned Series II that launched in 2008. This piece belongs to Series II, the Dragon year falling as the fourth release in that second cycle. Circulation strikes in aluminium bronze were produced alongside a substantial bullion program in silver and gold, the base-metal dollar intended for general release through Australian banks and post offices.
