Issued to mark the platinum wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, though Philip had died in April 2021 — over a year before the coin's release. The RCM proceeded regardless, framing it as a retrospective commemorative. It was among the last Elizabeth II-effigy circulation-format dollars produced before her death in September 2022 rendered the entire obverse series obsolete for future issues.
