Additional information

The Voyageur dollar design has an odd institutional history: Alex Colville's original 1965 loon study was rejected in favour of Emanuel Hahn's canoe scene, which had appeared on the dollar since 1935. When the loonie replaced the dollar coin in 1987, Hahn's design was retired from circulation entirely. This .9999 fine silver restrike belongs to a collector series the RCM has maintained specifically to keep the Voyageur imagery in continuous production — a design that never actually circulated in silver during its own era.
