Additional information

The 2003 Voyageur dollar was issued to mark the fiftieth anniversary of Elizabeth II's coronation on June 2, 1953. Canada's connection to that event was substantial — the CBC broadcast the ceremony live, and it was among the first major international events to reach Canadian television audiences in real time. The .9999 fine silver specification places this well above the sterling standard of earlier Royal Canadian Mint collector issues, a shift toward four-nines purity that the RCM had been gradually implementing across its numismatic program through the late 1990s and early 2000s.
