Obverse description The obverse features the fourth-generation crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, engraved by Ian Rank-Broadley and signed with his initials IRB in the lower left field. Behind and above the portrait, a detailed sculptural relief depicting a group of robed classical figures — evoking European cultural heritage — is rendered across the upper portion of the coin. To the right, a partial outline map of Europe marks the cities featured in the series, including Moscow, Vilnius, Warsaw, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Ljubljana, and Rome. The denomination 1 DOLLAR and the issuer legend NIUE ISLAND are inscribed along the lower rim, flanked by the date 2016, all within an ornate scrollwork border. The legend UNITED IN DIVERSITY and the date 01.11.1993 appear at the top of the field, referencing the entry into force of the Maastricht Treaty.
