Additional information

Issued on the 150th anniversary of the Victoria Cross, this coin commemorates Canada's long connection to the decoration — Canadians have received the VC more than any other Commonwealth nation outside Britain, with 96 awards across both World Wars. The Royal Canadian Mint produced two distinct collector versions in 2006: one with a colourized finish and one without, accounting for the paired Charlton reference numbers.

The VC itself was instituted by Queen Victoria in 1856, with the first medals cast from the bronze of Russian cannons captured at Sevastopol.
