Cook Islands has issued dollar-denominated coins under New Zealand's currency arrangements since the 1970s, but pieces like this one exist purely as collectibles — no one is spending them in Rarotonga. This is a modern restrike tribute to the American Peace Dollar series, produced for the collector market and bearing Elizabeth II's effigy as issuer rather than any US authority.
