The Type 97 Chi-Ha was Japan's most widely produced medium tank of the Second World War, seeing action from the invasion of China through the Pacific campaigns — and increasingly outmatched by Allied armor as the war progressed. Tuvalu's 2010 bullion and collector series drew on this Pacific theatre connection, as the islands themselves were occupied by Japanese forces in 1942 before being retaken by Allied troops later that year.
