Cook Islands became a prolific producer of commemorative bullion in the 2000s, leveraging its status as a New Zealand realm territory to issue legal tender with minimal domestic circulation pressure. At 0.5 grams of five-nines fine gold, these pieces contain fractionally more pure gold than a standard .9999 issue of equivalent weight — a specification that was a minor marketing distinction at the time of issue.
