| Beschrijving keerzijde | Full-color reproduction of a detail from Sandro Botticelli's painting The Mystic Nativity (c. 1500-1501), depicting a rustic stable structure with a thatched roof set against a wooded landscape. The scene is rendered in rich polychrome enamel applied directly to the silver surface, faithfully reproducing the tempera palette and compositional elements of the original work housed in the National Gallery, London. This piece constitutes the ninth panel in a series of fifteen coins collectively forming the complete painted composition. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Niue's dollar coinage has long served as a vehicle for commemorative programs with no connection to the island's own history or economy — the "Mystic Nativity" series being a straightforward example of a mint-driven collector product licensed through Niue's issuing authority. The ninth of fifteen pieces in the set, its existence follows a well-worn modern pattern: a small Pacific nation lends its name to a program designed, marketed, and largely sold outside its borders.
Botticelli's Mystic Nativity was painted around 1500–1501 and is the only work he ever signed.
