The Mystic Nativity is a tempera painting completed by Sandro Botticelli around 1500 — the only work he ever signed, and inscribed with an apocalyptic Greek text linking the scene to the Book of Revelation and the political turmoil of Florence under Savonarola's influence. This coin is the seventh in a fifteen-piece series issued by Niue pairing Renaissance masterworks with the bullion format.
Niue's arrangement with the New Zealand Mint for silver art releases of this kind has been running since the early 2000s, with the island's nominal sovereignty used primarily as a licensing mechanism for collectible issues.
