Part of a fifteen-piece series issued by Niue in 2013, each coin reproducing a different work from the Western devotional painting tradition. Niue has become one of the more prolific small-nation licensing partners for this format, contracting with the Perth Mint and similar facilities to produce collector silver on behalf of a Pacific island with a resident population under 1,500. The revenue model is the coin itself — there is no domestic circulation audience.
Botticelli completed The Mystic Nativity around 1500–1501, the only work he ever signed. The Greek inscription across the top references the Apocalypse of John and dates to what Botticelli believed was a tribulation year.
