Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing diademed and draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear below the truncation. The portrait is set against the distinctive Widmanstätten crystal pattern of the Muonionalusta meteorite planchet, which forms a striking geometric field. The legend ELIZABETH II flanks the portrait on the left, NIUE and ONE DOLLAR on the right, and the date 2019 appears below in the exergue area.

Aanvullende informatie

The Muonionalusta meteorite, embedded in this piece, fell in northern Scandinavia roughly one million years ago and was first identified near the Muonio River on the Sweden-Finland border in 1906. It is one of the oldest known meteorites to have been recovered on Earth, with an estimated crystallization age exceeding 4.5 billion years. Niue's nominal sovereignty makes it a convenient issuing authority for the global collector-bullion market — the dollar denomination carries no meaningful monetary function on the island.

The Nibelung cycle itself originated in oral Germanic tradition before being codified in Middle High German around 1200 AD, drawing on earlier Norse sources including the Völsunga saga.
