The Cook Islands has operated one of the Pacific's most prolific commemorative coin programs since the 1970s, issuing currency under New Zealand monetary arrangements while retaining full authority to contract private mints — primarily B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt in Germany — for collector pieces with no realistic circulation intent.
